How EMI is calculated
The same reducing-balance formula lenders use — nothing proprietary, nothing hidden.
On a reducing-balance loan, interest is charged each month only on the amount you still owe. Every EMI first covers that month's interest; whatever remains repays principal. Because the balance keeps falling, the interest share of each EMI shrinks and the principal share grows — early EMIs are mostly interest, late EMIs are mostly principal.
EMI = P × r × (1 + r)n ÷ ((1 + r)n − 1)
where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (the annual rate divided by 12), and n is the tenure in months. The calculator above runs this exactly, keeps every figure in whole paise, and settles the last instalment against the exact remaining balance — so the schedule always closes at zero.
Three steps to a number you can trust
- 1
Set your amount, rate, and tenure
Use the sliders or type exact figures. Take the illustrative rate band from the product page you're considering, and run both ends of it.
- 2
Read the result — and the schedule
The monthly EMI is the headline, but total interest is the real price of the loan. Open the amortization schedule to see each month's split.
- 3
Talk it through
If the EMI fits your cash flow, send a two-minute enquiry. A named consultant calls back within one working day and tells you which family of credit fits and what to assemble.
EMI questions, answered honestly
Is the EMI shown here what I'll actually pay?
It's an exact calculation for the amount, rate, and tenure you enter — but the rate you finally get is set by a lender's underwriting, not by this page, and the bands on our product pages are illustrative rather than quotes. Treat the result as a planning figure and re-run it with the sanctioned rate once you have one.
What does reducing-balance mean?
Interest each month is charged only on the loan amount still outstanding, not on the original principal. As your EMIs repay principal, the interest portion shrinks and the principal portion grows — the schedule table below the calculator shows this month by month.
Does using this calculator affect my credit score?
No. It runs entirely in your browser — we don't ask for personal details, and we never pull a credit report. Lenders check your credit only when you formally apply to them.
What interest rate should I enter?
Start with the illustrative band shown on the product page you're considering — every product on the Ojas Loans shelf publishes one, as a range of what that family of credit typically costs rather than a quote. Run the calculation at both ends of the band to see your best and worst case.
The EMI fits? Take the next step.
Send a two-minute enquiry and a named consultant calls back within one working day. Every rate here is illustrative until a lender underwrites your actual file — and Ojas Loans is a lending service provider, is never the lender, and has no lender empanelled today.
